The Ebonyi state PDP caucus in the National Assembly say they are not in support of the state Governor David Umahi’s defection from the People’s Democratic Party to the All progressives Congress.
The lawmakers made their position known while speaking with National Assembly Correspondents on Wednesday in Abuja.
The caucus, which consists of five House of Representatives members and three senators, said no member of the caucus is leaving the PDP.
Reading their resolution on behalf of the members, Sam Egwu, a former governor of the state, said they remain proud card-carrying members of the PDP, the platform on which we were elected
He said while they support that it’s the turn of the South-East to produce the next president, they consider it unwise to give ultimatum and conditionality to the party.
The lawmakers accused the governor of disloyalty to the PDP haven Elected as the State PDP Chairman from 2003 to 2007, deputy governor from 2007 to 2015 and two-term governor from 2015 till date all under the platform of the PDP.
They also noted that candidates are products of their political parties assuring that not a single member of the National Assembly caucus is towing the governor’s line of defecting.
The Ebonyi State caucus of the National Assembly have dumped Ebonyi State governor, Dave Umahi, and announced their decision to remain in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
This comes barely 24 hours after Mr Umahi defected to the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) from the PDP.
