Senator Michael Opeyemi Bamidele has called for an urgent upward review of the remunerations of Honourable Justices, Judges and other Judicial Staff.
The senator who is also the Chairman Senate Committee on Judiciary and Legal matters stressed that the last time the Legal Luminaries’ salaries and emolument was reviewed was in 2008, which is about 12 years ago.
He made the call while contributing to discussion on the Report of the Senate. ad-hoc Committee on Nigerian Security Challenges at the plenary on Wednesday in Abuja.
Maintaining that one major way of boosting the morale and psyche of the staff of the Judiciary is to urgently review their remunerations upward.
Bamidele is of the opinion that it will further strengthen the Judiciary in the discharge of its duties especially with respect to the administration of criminal justice in Nigeria.
Recall, in 2019 during the Budget Defense with Federal Court and Judicial Bodies under the National Judicial Council at the National Assembly. While Chairing the Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal matters, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele expressed concerns over the poor welfare package for Judges.
