The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has stuck a Strategic collaboration and partnership with the Ondo State Government on expansion of broadband infrastructure and improve the quality of telecoms services in Nigeria. During a courtesy visit to the Governor of Ondo State, His Excellency, Rotimi Akeredolu, SAN by Top officials of Ibadan Zonal Office of the Commission. The Controller of NCC Ibadan Zonal Office, Yomi Arowosafe, who led the NCC team to the Governor’s office in Akure gave the Governor a detailed narration on various activities and initiatives of the Commission while soliciting the collaboration of the state government particularly on NCC’s plan to expand broadband infrastructure and improve the quality of telecoms services in Nigeria.
Arowosafe further stated that, the collaboration is required in that regard with the State’s Ministry of Works as well as with other agencies supervising infrastructure development, especially on the need to share timely information before road constructions and rehabilitations are undertaken.
This, according to the Regulatory Body is to ensure that Metropolitan Fibre Cable, and Long Distance Infrastructure licensees are able to identify and relocate their infrastructure prior to road works in order to prevent fiber cuts and damage of telecoms infrastructure which have implications for quality of telecoms services.
Arowosafe also sought deeper partnership with the State Government on the Emergency Communication Centre (ECC) project being constructed by the NCC in all state capitals in Nigeria. The NCC Controller requested standard access road and priority electricity line to the ECC project in Akure.
Governor Akeredolu granted the requests, further assuring the Commission on the modalities of achieving the request.
