Minister of Women Affairs Dame Pauline Tallen, said strategic plans to address Gender Based Violence to curb the trend is underway including the toll free number of the Ministry to report cases of Gender Based Violence.

Speaking through the Permanent Secretary Women Affairs, Mrs Ifeoma Anagbogu at the technical session of the 20th virtual National Council Meeting on women affairs on Wednesday at the Federal Ministry of women affairs in Abuja.

Noted that Pre-existing toxic social norms and gender inequalities, economic and social stress caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, coupled with restricted movement and social isolation measures, have led to an exponential increase in Gender-based violence.

Further speaking on the  theme; Gender Based Violence: A shadow in a pandemic and a call to action. The Permanent Secretary assured that the focal group will be adequately taken care of while noting that the Ministry is collaborating with other relevant stakeholders for due documentation and analysis of cases of Gender based violence
