In the bid to curtail the spate of insecurity across the country, the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, has ordered the full and speedy roll-out of the community policing strategy.
Adamu who stated this in Abuja on Friday during the first IGP Conference for 2020 said, the recent incidents of armed banditry, kidnapping and armed robbery mostly in Kaduna, Niger, Niger, Katsina and Zamfara States prompted the roll-out.
The IGP said the plan involves the setting up of community policing committees in Wards, Local government and state levels which will upon inauguration identify credible citizens from across each locality for appointment as special constables who will serve as community policing officers.
According to the IGP, when fully operational the initiative will afford he citizens the opportunity to control their security with the guidance of he police. Adamu further charge commissioners of police on dedication, commitment, resilience and professionalism in the discharge of their duties.
