The Minister of the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs, Dame Pauline Tallen led the United Nations, British Council, European Union, Nigerian women, He-For-She group and other relevant stakeholders on a walk to end Rape and to raise awareness on Gender Based Violence.
The minister who frowned at the alarming and unacceptable proportion of rape in the country stressed that there is no justification it.
The walk which saw through major land marks in Abuja pulled so much crowd with more women and even men joining the walk chanting anti-rape slogans and dressed in branded Orange tops with inscriptions of anti rape catch-phrases.
The first stop of the walk was the Supreme Court of Nigeria, where the Minister appealed for justice for Rapists and also make it quick. The Minister further pleaded that women should be given listening ears and fair hearing whenever such incidents is brought to their benches.
Dame Pauline further led the crowd in a march to the Police Force Headquarters to also synergize with the Police on the protection of women and the fight for women’s right especially when rape cases are reported
The walk is part of the flag off of the 2019 16- days of activism against gender based violence.
