The Nigerian Police has taken delivery of protective medical equipment as part of effort to fight the coronavirus pandemic.
Presented by the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), the gesture was to encourage police personnel in the discharge of their duties without exposing them to the coronavirus danger.

NHIS Executive secretary Mohammed Sambo who presented the items to the police authorities said the equipment were to ensure safety of police personnel who are also at the front line while enforcing government directives against the pandemic.

Sambo expressed optimism that the equipment will encourage security presonnel discharge their duties without fear of contracting the deadly disease.
Coordinator of the presidential taskforce on covid-19, Doctor Aliyu Sani encouraged other government agencies to emulate NHIS and donate equipment to the taskforce to cater for those in need of it. He said the taskforce prefers commodity to funds.


The police on their part assured of judicious utilization of the items. Assistant Inspector General of Police, Austin Agbonlahor who received the items on behalf of IGP Mohammed Adamu said the items would be spread among police commands across the country.

Items delivered to the police include; 240 face masks , 500 packs of hand gloves, 125 temperature testing equipment and 500 pieces of protective suits among others.
