The move by the House of Representatives to arrest the opposition coalition CUPP Spokesperson Ikenga Ugochinyere suffered a major blow. The House had passed a resolution directing the Inspector General of Police and the Director General of the DSS to arrest the opposition Spokesperson.
In a statement made by the CUPP’s Spokesperson, Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere Thursday in Abuja. The FCT High Court in a landmark ruling has barred the Police IG and DSS from arresting or detaining me in any manner.
“Delivering the landmark ruling in the suit number FCT/HC/BW/CV/120/2020, the court ordered the security agencies not to give any effect to the resolution of the House of Representatives for being in disobedience of the orders of Taiwo O. Taiwo J of the Federal High Court in suit No FHC/ABJ/CS/475/2020.
The Speaker had misdirected the House of Representatives to pass a resolution following its adoption of the report of its adhoc Committee to direct the Inspector General of Police and the Director General of the DSS to arrest, detain, investigate and prosecute the spokesperson of the opposition coalition. Speaker Gbajabiamila’s pursuit of personal vendetta against the opposition for standing up against his leadership’s excesses, shameful act of plagiarism, his unpopular Control of Infectious Disease Bill coupled with his unfitness for the office of the Speaker has led him into dragging down the institution of the House of Representatives to a low level and debasing all the celebrated values the House has built over the years.”
The Federal High Court had earlier directed the Speaker not to take further steps but in flagrant disobedience and show of emerging tyrannical posture, the Speaker despite being served with the orders of Court still went ahead to purport that the House had passed a resolution directing the Police Inspector General and the State Security Service Director General to arrest and prosecute me. The implication of this order is that there is in law no resolution of the House.” He stated…
While commending the jurist for being bold to give the order in clear terms despite the identity of the Respondents in the Motion, he also declared that this ruling is yet another milestone victory for democracy and rule of law, right to free speech and a deadly blow to tyranny. He also decried the current leadership of Femi Gbajabiamila describing it as a disservice to Nigerians.
“It is very unfortunate that the House of Representatives which had always been the heartbeat of our democracy had been reduced to a shadow of itself under the leadership of Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila who had dragged the image of the House into the mud in his attempt to use the shield of the House to cover his dirty past.
Speaker Femi has made the current House the most despised by Nigerians with his desperate efforts to satisfy the executive arm of government, thereby turning the House into President Buharis dining table where his political dishes are served without any objection like the recent approval of 5.5b and 22.7 billion Dollars loan in less than an hour despite the frivolous and lopsided nature of the loan which will plunge our nation and generation unborn into eternal debts.
The glory of the House has almost departed from it since Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila took seat as the Speaker despite the weighty issue of Supreme Court of Georgia finding him guilty for dishonest act and it would be in the interest of all House members in particular and all Nigerians in general that the Speaker is made to vacate office to restore the integrity and the glory of the House of Representatives.
Let all the good men and women in the House of Representatives rise up and force the Speaker who is unfit for the Office of the Speaker to step down so that the image of the House can be rebuilt before Nigerians finally and permanently label the current House as House of Political Alleluia led by a man found guilty for dishonest act by the Supreme Court of Georgia and willing to keep dragging the image of the House and law making process down in a bid to avert his past being used against him by the Executive. It is time for our Nation’s courageous Honourable Members to free the House of Representatives from the hold of a man unfit to occupy such office and take back the People’s House before it’s too late.” He said…
