Diplomatic Correspondents Association of Nigeria (DICAN), a body of journalists accredited by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to cover the Ministry, and her relevant bodies that include all the Foreign Missions in Nigeria, has confirmed as fake news, a story circulated by some individuals on social media saying “China seek court’s approval to kill over 20,000 coronavirus patients
DICAN affirmed that there is no iota of truth in the story and has therefore distance itself “from such malicious publication.”
In a statement signed by Raphael Oni, the General Secretary of the group, DICAN said, ” We report authoritatively that such does not exist and we have been in constant touch with the Chinese Embassy in Abuja.
” Despite the fact that we were sure that the story is fake, we still got in touch with the Embassy.
“Permit me to quote from the response we got on our findings, “an official from the Chinese Embassy, through an informal response said: Every single word of this message is fake. I feel sorry for the person who fabricated this fake news because that person is evil and ill intentioned, and the lie that person created is worse than the virus itself.
“The Chinese government always puts people’s life and health as its top priority. China is working at its best to contain the virus, not only for China, but for all the human being. It is immoral and despicable to slander and backstab by fabricating such ridiculous fake message. One who believes in such nonsense should also reflect on one’s ignorance.”
DICAN urged journalists to always do their finding well in order not to mislead the public.
