The Nigerian Senate has adjourned plenary for two weeks due to coronavirus pandemic.
President of the Senate Ahmad Lawan made the announcement after an-hour closed-door session.
He said the senate would be on hand to attend to any urgent matter.
Lawan advised the general public to adhere to the guidelines put in place by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).
The Senate also urged Federal Government to devote special funds to fight the covid-19 threatening Nigeria threatening Nigeria.
The Upper Legislative Chamber also urged the Federal Government to give financial and other resource assistance to the states in the fight against the virus.
According to Lawan, the senate committees on health and primary healthcare and communicable diseases will continue to engage the Federal Ministry of health and presidential task-force on Coronavirus
Meanwhile, the Senate held a one-minute silence in honour of the late Rose Oko, senator representing Cross River north, who died on Monday night.
