The Nigerian Communications Commission
says it has recorded over 58 million Nigerians as subscribers on the GSM networks with a noticeable 39% broadband penetration.
The Executive Vice Chairman of the Telecom Regulator, Professor Umar Garba Danbatta revealed this during a score card presentation and chat with Media Chiefs, Editors &ICT Business Correspondents in Abuja where he highlighted his achievements since he took over the helm of affairs at the Commission.
Professor Danbatta further noted that the Regulator has contributed immensely to the national Gross Domestic Product of the Country with a Quarterly revenue of about N1.4 to N1.5 Trn which monetary terms is about $4B.
The NCC Boss also made mention of the huge success in terms of licensed infrastructure company’s ;PPP for investment arrangement; Taskforce to enforce and ensure no duplication but quality performance of service providers; spectrum trading framework to ensure leasing and transfers and finally investment through provision of grants to universities for research which N50 million was released for that purpose.
The Commission also promised to ensure compliance and maintenance of quality services to end users. In terms of dualised traffic; MTN was authorised within the period to acquire over Visafone.
