With so much recent outcry against the backdrop of rampant drug abuse amongst the youth e.g. the codeine syrup abuse epidemic, it is easy to miss grave signs of other forms of drug abuse.

Starting with the very subtle one where folks use medicated soaps/creams when they do not have any skin issues to warrant their use, to using antibiotics “ampicillin or ampiclox” for cold and catarrh when that ailment is not even caused by a bacteria, 99.99% of the time.

Lately, I have heard of the use of the drug Super Apeti to promote good appetite (weight gain) and sound sleep. I guess the “good appetite” comes from the drug’s name that sounds like “appetite” but the sleep part definitely comes because the drug is actually an antihistamine that is meant to be PRESCRIBED for allergic rhinitis (hay fever). Other well known antihistamine brands are Piriton, Benadryl and Zyrtec. Their main side effects are …you guessed it, sleepiness, sedation, dizziness, disturbed motor coordination, confusion, restlessness, excitation, nervousness, tremor, irritability, sleeplessness, tingling, convulsions, emotional state, hallucination and faintness.

I swear we play too much in that country, who are the people in charge and why would they NOT only let this rogue company deceitfully name the drug “apeti” but also allow the use of the image of fruits and other appealing foods on its package? 🙆🏾
